Word SnapsThere's one secret word, and every guess you make comes back with a rank: rank 1 is the word itself, and the higher the number, the less your guess has to do with it. There's no upper limit, so a wild first guess ranking in the thousands is normal - you close in by trying words related to whatever has ranked lowest so far.
Daily Challenge is one word a day, the same for everyone, with a leaderboard ranked by fewest guesses. Casual gives you unlimited words whenever you want to practise, with no effect on your daily rank. Versus is head-to-head: you and an opponent share one secret word and take turns guessing until someone reaches rank 1 - challenge a friend by name, send an invite link, or get matched with a random opponent.
Sign in to save your progress, keep your place on the leaderboard and play Versus - or just start guessing as a guest.
Guess the secret word in as few tries as possible.
Every guess gets a rank number. Rank 1 means you guessed the secret word exactly. The higher the number, the less related your guess is to the secret word - there's no upper limit, so don't worry about how high the number climbs at first.
There's no "hot/cold" hint beyond the rank number itself. Try a variety of words and watch which ones bring the rank down - words related to your lowest-ranked guess so far are usually a good next try.
Daily Challenge is the ranked mode - everyone gets the same secret word each day, and solving it (fewer guesses is better) places you on that day's leaderboard. It's always played on Hard, with no hints, so every player's result is directly comparable. Casual is unranked - you get your own secret word and can start a brand new one whenever you like via the "New Word" button, with no effect on your Daily Challenge rank or the leaderboard. Stuck on a casual word? Click Reveal Word to give up and see the answer.
Hard is the standard experience described above - no extra help. Easy automatically reveals a word closely related to the secret word every 5 guesses, without needing to ask for it - a nudge in the right direction if you get stuck. Pick Hard or Easy when starting a casual word - it's locked in for that round, and you'll choose again the next time you start a new word.
Versus is head-to-head - you and an opponent share the same secret word and take turns guessing it, one guess per turn, until someone reaches rank 1. Search for a friend by name and challenge them directly (they'll get a notification to accept), or click Find Random Opponent to be paired with the next other player looking for a match. You can have several matches - sent, received, and in progress - open at the same time. If nothing comes to mind on your turn, click Pass to hand the turn to your opponent without spending a guess.
You can switch between classic and compare view. When in the compare view, users can see what the other user has guessed (right side) compared to your guess (left side).
The Versus Leaderboard ranks players by total wins, with the number of distinct opponents faced as a tiebreaker. If a match sits on the same turn for 24 hours with no guess, whoever's turn it was forfeits and their opponent wins.
If you are struggling to guess the word, you can use the API call below by entering in the highest rank word you have.
